Have you seen any Live Advent Windows in a street near you? Nor had I until this year when my gorgeous friend Claire told me that the road where they've moved to are doing one...

I LOVE this idea!!

Basically, a live advent is where lots of residents in one street agree to be assigned a date each in December, and then, on their given day, they reveal one of their windows in full advent glory!

This means that as December progresses, that particular street acts as an advent calendar....

I've left it far too late for this year but I thought next year I mught give it a go....

Isn't it the loveliest Christmas idea?!

My Top Ten Modern Country Christmas Front Doors!

A big Christmassy hello from my brand new laptop! My faithful old one died a very sad and painful death so I'm frantically trying to get used to this sparkly new-fangled thing in front of me!

Modern Country Christmas Front Door

But onto happier news: let's start this season as we mean to go on, enjoying each and every aspect of our homes as we look forward to a time spent focusing on what matters: family, close friendships and celebrating the amazing news that a Saviour, Jesus Christ, has been born, bringing hope to all.

Modern Country Christmas Front Door

Shall we kick off by looking at
my 10 favourite Modern Country Festive Front Doors?

Picking ten favourites is always hard but I hope these festive front doors get your creative juices flowing!

I love a good wreath at this time of year, don't you? I've often made my own in previous years but we're doing up our garden at present so there is very little suitable foliage...I shall be buying mine in...

Modern Country Christmas Front Door

But it's not just the wreaths that make these front doors super-festive...it's the small scale accompaniments too: a woodpile here, a fairy-lit standard tree there...

...the more space you have between your front door and any public space, the more you can go to town with this idea...

And any existing bare branches of plants, laden by Mr Jack Frost himself with twinkling, sparkly droplets of nature's own diamonds, add to it all the more.

But if you have very little space outside at all then fret not!

And there is PLENTY to occupy your festive flair inside your very own front door this Christmas!!

Cream And Grey Home Tour

Do you remember I shared this gorgeous Modern Country kitchen?
Is it dreamy?!

Limpley Stoke chateau / country house rental - Kitchen

Would you like to see the rest of the (equally gorgeous and equally Modern Country style) house? We need to go through the kitchen to get to,,,

Limpley Stoke chateau / country house rental - Kitchen 2

...this dining room in the light-filled conservatory...

Limpley Stoke chateau / country house rental

which overlooks a very English Modern Country garden....

Back inside, I love the proportions of the living room, and its walls of palest creamy-grey...

Upstairs, the same colour palette prevails. Lots of cream and lots of grey....

I love it! It works so well to create a beautifully cohesive scheme...

...and makes it easy to move items from room to room when the mood takes you..

Try Farrow and Ball Cornforth White or Little Greene French Grey for a similar feel.

And will you look at that stunning view?

Even the outside of the house has a cream and grey theme! Now I'm thinking where I can use this look in our house!

Book Review: One Pound Meals By Miguel Barclay

Today, I'm bringing you a book, Miguel Barclay's One Pound Meals, that I got out of the library and completely fell in love with.
So much so that I now have my own copy!

Miguel Barclay rose to fame through his Instagram account, showcasing his delicious one-person recipes that cost....wait for it....one single pound!

Yes, each of these pictures of yumminess will cost you only a quid to put together. Obviously for our family, I need to double, double and double up again but LOOK!! Such goodness.

I'm such a sucker for gorgeous, home-cooked comfort food, and One Pouned Meals has them by the bucket-load. Let me give you a tiny taster of examples....

Inside-Out Vegetable Moussaka
Feta Tortellini Puttanesca
New York Meatball Sandwih
Gnocchi Al Forno
Leek and Bacon Gratin
Ham and Cheese Crepes

Please see the One-Poundness of the book as a hook, rather than a cheap-as-chips way to cook. These AREN'T meals that look or, for that matter, taste, cheap. They are are as delicious as they are homely.

Please, take a look at One Pound Meals and be taken into Miguel Barclay's beautiful, scrumptious (and economical!) world.....

Nigella Lawson's New Book: At My Table: Book Review

I'm thrilled to say that Nigella is back with a new book called At My Table: A Celebration Of Home Cooking! Even the title makes me happy!

Image of Nigella's Ginger and Walnut Carrot Cake

At My Table is a slight departure in some ways from the direction her last couple of books seemed to take. It's more humble, less fancy and has taken an about-turn back to the comforting, homely cooking I love.

Image of Nigella's Rose and Black Pepper Pavlova

Recipes such as Salt And Vinegar Potatoes, Cumberland Gravy and Queen Of Puddings will transport you into a world of culinary happiness, away from the stresses and strains of real life, and lifted by the memories of idyllic childhoods (real or otherwise!).

Image of Nigella's Turkish Eggs

My only quibble is that it's not as visually exciting as her previous books, though the photos are lip-smackingly stunning. Her lovely preambles to each recipe, as well as the recipes themselves are written in smaller writing, and there are no heart-warming pictures of Nigella striking a pose in her gorgeous kitchen, apart from the one on the front cover.

But these are minor quibbles. Nigella's At My Table is most certainly joining my go-to bookshelf of everyday recipe books!
Now, please excuse me while I finish making her Emergency Brownies...the baking smells filling my home are amazing!

Take Care Till Next Time,
Sarahxx
